I graduated with distinction in Medicine from Queen's University of Belfast in 1998 and subsequently completed a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2005 researching the aerodynamics of nasal airflow. All of my junior doctor training took place in Northern Ireland leading to completion of specialist training in 2011. In that year I also attained the EACCI diploma in immunology and allergology. Before taking up an ENT consultant post I completed the prestigious South Australian Rhinology fellowship with Prof PJ Wormald in Adelaide covering advanced sinus surgery, lacrimal surgery, rhinoplasty and anterior skull base surgery. On return to Northern Ireland I co-founded the Regional Anterior Skull Base Service with Philip Weir in neurosurgery in the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast. I also worked for 9 years in the Ulster hospital which has a paediatric inpatient ENT service concentrating on paediatric ENT procedures such as grommet insertion, adenoidectomy, tonsillectomy, pinnaplasty, division of tongue tie, neck node and thyroglossal cyst excision. I am currently the clinical lead in ENT in the Royal Victoria Hospital practicing general ENT surgery with a special interest in rhinology, sinus surgery, lacrimal surgery (endoscopic DCR) and anterior skull base surgery. I have been an honorary lecturer and undergraduate lead for ENT in Queen's University Belfast since 2014. I maintain an interest in ENT research and have co-authored 29 scientific papers and 2 book chapters. I am the current Northern Secretary of the Irish Otolaryngology Society.
