I Graduated with Honours from Queen's University in 1989 and completed my surgical training within the Northern Ireland Training Scheme. I Completed two specialist fellowships in Colorectal Disease at St Marks Hospital London and Mount Siani Hospital in Toronto Canada.
I worked at a Senior Lecturer at Queen's University with an Honorary Consultant appointment (2001-4) During which time I supervised several MD and PhD projects in Colorectal Cancer.
I have been a Consultant General & Colorectal Surgeon at Belfast Trust since 2004.
During this time I held the role of the Regional Endoscopy Lead which provided the ground work for establishment of Bowel Cancer Screening in Northern Ireland.
I was appointed as the Head of School of Surgery (2011-2017) responsible for overall standard and delivery of surgical training in all disciplines.
I have been appointed as Associate post Graduate Dean at NIMDTA (postgraduate Medical training) and all role as Quality lead for Endoscopy in Bowel Cancer screening.
My Specialist areas have been pelvic Floor disorders and Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery and proud to have been a pioneer in introducing both these practices for the benefit of the population to the trust and the Region.
