If cataracts are making it harder to read, drive at night or enjoy everyday life, we are here to help.
At the Ulster Independent Clinic, your care is led by our experienced consultants and planned around your eyes, your lifestyle and what you want from your vision.
You do not need to understand cataract surgery before getting in touch. We will assess your eyes, explain the options that are right for you and help you make an informed decision - at every stage.

Cataracts develop gradually, which means it can be easy to adjust to changes in your vision without realising how much your sight has altered. Common signs include:
If any of these sound familiar, an assessment is the right next step - even if you're not sure whether surgery is necessary.
A cataract develops when the natural lens inside your eye becomes cloudy. This lens sits behind the pupil and is responsible for focusing light onto the retina. As it clouds over time, vision becomes blurred or distorted - and glasses or contact lenses can no longer correct it.
Cataract surgery removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with a clear artificial lens, known as an intraocular lens (IOL). It is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures in the world, with a well-established safety record.
The procedure is normally carried out under local anaesthetic, takes around 20 to 45 minutes per eye and is performed as a day case - meaning you can return home the same day.

The MSK team assess, diagnose and treat all forms of running injury.
We understand that running injuries rarely happen in isolation. Our physiotherapists take time to understand your training history, running biomechanics and movement patterns to identify the root cause of your injury - not just the symptoms.
Assessment includes detailed analysis of your running gait, strength testing and joint mobility, as well as understanding your training load and goals. From there, we develop a personalised treatment plan combining hands-on therapy, targeted exercise prescription and progressive loading strategies to rebuild tissue capacity.
Common running injuries we treat include:
Our goal is to get you back to running as safely and quickly as possible - with a clear plan to prevent the same injury from happening again.

The pelvic health team helps men and women who struggle to be active due to pelvic health concerns.
At UIC we help both men and women receive expert pelvic health assessment and tailored treatments to address the cause, not just the symptoms. As part of your assessment, we may use a bladder scanner to ensure your bladder is emptying fully and functioning normally.(15 secs)
Our physiotherapists assess how your pelvic floor works through breathing, posture, and movement. We may use clinical technology, including biofeedback, to support awareness, coordination, and ensure effective pelvic floor training (12secs)
Leaking for your bowel or bladder can affect both men and women, particularly during running and high-impact exercise – It is not something you should have to live with… and you are not alone.
Treatment options include bowel irrigation and containment devices, alongside structured pelvic floor rehabilitation. Ongoing reassessment ensures that exercises are being performed correctly and effectively to guide your rehabilitation and a confident return to running.
